TikTok has in a short time become somewhat of a digital dream machine à la Hollywood. The younger sibling of social media platforms like Youtube and Facebook, has catapulted teens into both fame and fortune with many wanting to follow. So, let’s take a look at these celebrities of the TikTok universe.

You might be asking yourself why you need to know this? Well, if you’re going to be on TikTok it’s important to be aware of who to follow, who to co-op with and who to get inspired by. And let’s be honest, celebrities are a must-know if you want to navigate the mainstream digital landscape. I mean, if you get a repost from Addison Rae you would want to know who she is.

The D’Amelio sisters on TikTok

And sure, you will find the classic celebrities like Will Smith, Jason Derulo and The Rock here. Stars that made a career in movies and music bringing their millions of fans into the digital realm of TikTok. But the fascinating thing about TikTok are the new celebrities with more than five of the top ten most followed profiles being girls and women #girlpower.

The most obvious of these social media personalities are the D’Amelio sisters attracting over 150 million followers with their dancing and singing. Now that’s a lot of exposure. And the journey to fame has been quick for the younger Charli D’Amelio as she posted her first viral video in 2019, a so-called “duet” with another TikTok user, that garnered her attention. She soon followed up with more dance videos which

The TikTok Hype House

In November of 2019, Charli D’Amelio joined the collaborative content house, The Hype House, together with her sister Dixie D’Amelio. A collective of TikTok personalities and content creators living in a Spanish-style mansion in California to make it easier to collaborate and produce content together. Some of the more notable names on this address were Addison Rae, Daisy Keech, Larray, Vinnie Hacker and Chase Hudson with their #hypehouse gaining nearly 100 million views on TikTok. That’s what you get when you move a group of teens into a mansion in sunny California.

“You can’t come and stay with us for a week and not make any videos, it’s not going to work. This whole house is designed for productivity. If you want to party, there’s hundreds of houses that throw parties in L.A. every weekend. We don’t want to be that. It’s not in line with anyone in this house’s brand. This house is about creating something big, and you can’t do that if you’re going out on the weekends.”, Thomas Petrou from the Hype House says.

And other so-called collab houses would follow for other social media platforms such as 02L Mansion and Clout House.

TikTok is creating millionaires

There is a reason why being a TikTok influencer seems to be such a popular choice of profession for many teens. Besides the fame, it’s a line of work that can pay quite a handsome sum of money giving you access to brand deals and other celebrity perks. That is if you do it right. A branded video for example can earn you between 200 to 20 000 dollars.

And although it might be hard not to get bitter that a teenager makes more a month than I do during a whole year, I still have to admit that I’m curious about how much these digital stars are worth. And let’s go big starting with:

Addison Rae – 5 million dollars yearly

As one of the OG:s of TikTok it might not be that surprising that Addison Rae is among the top earners making around five million a year on her fifteen-second dance videos. Let’s see you calculate that hourly rate.

Charli D’Amelio – 4 million dollars yearly

Charli is sixteen years old. Yeah, I just wanted you to know that, sixteen. Making her one of the top-earning teenagers in the world with four million dollars a year. Not that surprising when you’re featured in Superbowl commercials for Sabra Hummus and also have your own Dunkin’ drink.

Dixie D’Amelio – 2,9 million dollars yearly

And if four million wasn’t enough Dixie, Charli D’Amelios sister, also brings in a yearly check. While Charli has made a million-dollar career on her dancing Dixie is the family singer earning around 2,9 million dollars a year.

Loren Gray – 2,6 million dollars yearly

Although she was dethroned by others as the most-followed account on TikTok, Loren Gray is not shedding any tears. Why would she? The nineteen-year-old beauty was recently signed by Virgin Records and with sponsors like Revlon, Burger King and Skechers she makes a whopping 2,6 million dollars per year.

Josh Richards – 1,5 million dollars

Being last is normally a bad thing but c’mon when we're basically listing millionaires it’s still not that bad… far from it actually. And Josh Richards might be the only guy to qualify into this list, which in itself says a lot about TikTok celebrities, making him quite unique with his almost 30 million followers and a yearly paycheck of 1,5 million dollars.
